concepting and planning

When it comes to any project whether its 2d or 3d, planning and concepting are key to the success of the outcome of the project.

Planning involves elements such as what the project is about, better known as the the brief, if the project doesn’t have a specific brief then its best to set yourself one. We are currently doing a vehicle project and the brief is to design a vehicle that traverses either land, air, sea or all three and is able to exist in the world at present seating two adult humans. Planning also involves timescale plotting when certain aspects of the project need to be completed to ensure everything is completed by the end. Constraints of a project is important and relates back to the brief as for the vehicle projects I was talkng about I will need to decide what the vehicles primary purpose is and also specific actions it will be able to perform or service it will provide etc. I am actually struggling to think of exactly what sort of vehicle I want to design or what purpose it will provide, I may post blogs based around the progress of the project if I get time.

Concepting is using everything from the planning stage to start designing what will eventually become the final outcome be it a vehicle, building, character etc.
the initial stages of of concepting usually starts with rough sketches and /or silouttes, sillouettes are good for getting and interesting shape for your design without including any detail.

after the initial concepts  of which there should be many as to explore multiple avenues of design, it is then time to start developing the best designs of the bunch to improve and add to the detail and build upon the basic deisngs

once ideas have been developed one will usually stand out as the strongest design and therefore be taken foreward into a stage of finalising the design. its good to ask people for feedback on your work as an out sider veiw can give you new ideas and help fix anything that can be improved upon. its also important to keep goin back to your brief to make sure its being fulfilled as this is the whole point of the design process you are undertaking.

once a final design is complete it can then be presented neatly and also in a situation.
